Katie turned 37 on Friday, and we celebrated with a weekend of festivities. On Friday evening, we went out for dinner with her family over in Hudson. We ate at an eclectic fish fry buffet that included barbeque ribs and egg rolls.
Saturday we threw a wine-and-cheese party for as many of Katie's friends as we could get to come over. It turned out not to be the best weekend for a lot of people (many of whom were traveling), but we still had a nice turnout (Rene, Liz/Jeff/Maria/Felix, Eric, Beth, Ryan, Christy/Gabe, Mark/Laura, Sarah/Andy).
I forgot to take pictures at the party, but I took a few of Katie and me for our Sunday night outing. We were sitting around on Sunday afternoon thinking of what might be fun to do for the afternoon. I suggested we take a nice drive to a restaurant destination somewhere. After a bit of flipping through some Minnesota magazines, we chose Tangled Up In Blue in Taylors Falls. That's about an hour away by the shortest route, but we chose a meandering route of county roads that took about 15 minutes longer.
We stopped at a historical marker in Scandia, which is the first Swedish settlement in the state. I love historical markers in general, though this one wasn't so interesting. (That may have something to do with the fact that Katie and I are both of Norwegian heritage and have a bit of a rivalry with the Swedes.) Here we are posing in front of a reproduction 1850s house:
Here's Katie sitting at our table in the restaurant:
Randomly, the restroom of the place was most interesting to me. They had a bunch of blue glass pebbles in the bottom of the sink:
A shelf next to the sink had a framed version of the sheet music of Bob Dylan's Tangled Up in Blue along with a variety of useful items, including cotton swabs, hair pomade, toothpick flossers, and tampons:
(In case you're wondering, the bathroom was unisex.)
The door was covered with a giant chalkboard that you could write on:
If you look closely, you can see that Katie left me a surprise (she used the restroom first before I did at the end of our meal):
(Do I have a sweet wife, or what?)
